The pair of full-backs are part of a small number of players that Bilbao can sign due to their policy of only buying players who are native to the Basque region and some surrounding areas. Urrutia also claimed that the club are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi and Atletico Madrid’s Raul Garcia.
Urrutia told AS, “There was interest from Athletic in players, although it was focused on Illarramendi. There are not so many players: [Asier] Illarramendi, Raúl García, [Nacho] Monreal, [César] Azpilicueta. We have to be aware, monitoring– whether they continue at their clubs [or not], it’s because they are interesting.”
Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger will now have to decide if they are willing to sell their players. It is far more likely that the Gunners will get rid of Monreal than the Blues of Azpilicueta because the North London man has struggled to get in to the starting XI at the Emirates.
