Athletic Bilbao are preparing to bid £5.6m for the 29-year-old defender after finishing the 2014-15 season in seventh place.
It will not be easy for Athletic Bilbao to lure Monreal away from Arsenal, as Monreal’s contract with the Gunners is not set to expire until 2017.
Monreal has also said that he wants to sign a new deal with Arsenal, according to Metro.
“I have one more year on my contract, but I want to stay,” Monreal said on his current situation.
The 29-year-old defender made 39 appearances for the Gunners in the 2014-15 season, and Athletic Bilbao are hoping to bolster their defence by adding him.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger appears to be willing to listen to offers for Monreal, according to Fichajes, so Monreal’s wish to stay in the Emirates may not be granted.
