Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank is reportedly willing to part ways with GM Thomas Dimitroff if the next head coach wants to.
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported on NFL Network’s NFL GameDay Morning that Blank has told people the new head coach will have a say in the future of the GM, according to his sources who have spoken to the owner. Until that coach is in place and until the organization decides they are a match, Dimitroff’s fate hangs in the balance, Rapoport stated.
Dimitroff is a two-time NFL Executive of the Year but the team has suffered two straight losing seasons since going to the NFC Championship game in 2012. The team fired head coach Mike Smith – the winningest coach in team history – after seven seasons with the team, and the team is still looking for their head coach for 2015.
Among candidates the team have reported interest in are Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, former Jets head coach Rex Ryan, Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and former Bills head coach Doug Marrone, among others.
