Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has stated that the Spanish Champions’ striker Diego Costa is yet to finalise a move to Chelsea, despite intense talks being held between the two clubs, reports the Daily Star.
Cerezo also confirmed that Chelsea goalie Thibaut Courtois, who spent 3 years on loan at the Vicente Calderon, would not be returning for another loan spell as the Blues want him back at Stamford Bridge.
The news that Costa’s £32 million deal has not been finalized yet might raise a few eyebrows, but there does not seem to be enough cause for concern yet for the Blues’ fans as the Brazilian born Spanish international striker is definitely on his way to Stamford Bridge soon.
Speaking about the status of Costa and Courtois, the Atletico chief was quoted saying in the Daily Star, “We don’t know anything about Costa, all we know is that Chelsea have made contact but we haven’t received any money or anything else yet. Until we receive the money from his buy-out clause, he remains an Atletico player. Chelsea can count on Courtois, because he is their player.”
Although Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had recently indicated that he wanted to sign Costa quickly, the delay in the marquee striker signing could also be due to doubts over the 25-year old’s adaptability to the Premier League, particularly after having had a bad World Cup in his birth country.
