Juanfran has spoken out about reports linking the defender with north London.
After much speculation Atletico Madrid full-back Juanfran has admitted that a move to Arsenal was on the cards but the Spaniard rejected the transfer.
The Gunners wanted to bring in the Spain international as the north London side looked to improve at the right side of defence – with Bacary Sagna strongly linked with a move away.
“It is true that I had an offer from Arsenal that any player would have liked to have accepted,” Juanfran was quoted by ITV.
“But I am very happy here.
“For me, as everyone knows, there is no better club than Atletico.”
The former Real Madrid defender joined Atleti from Osasuna in January 2011 and has since played 112 times in all competitions and helped the club to Europa League glory in 2012.
With Juanfran admitting a switch to the Emirates Stadium was rejected, it simply adds to the list of stars that the club missed out on this summer.
Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez and Luiz Gustavo all bypassed the club, although the capture of Madrid’s Mesut Ozil in a £42.4m deal has almost made all these other failures become forgotten.
This is coupled with the fact that since a disappointing opening day defeat to Aston Villa, Arsene Wenger’s men have a 100% record in all competitions and currently sit second in the Premier League table.
Juanfran meanwhile has played every La Liga match for Atletico this term and remains a stalwart at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
