Italian international had been linked with a switch to White Hart Lane this summer.
Atletico Madrid are closing in on the signing of Roma striker and Tottenham target Pablo Osvaldo, with the player’s agent revealing negotiations are at an advanced stage.
The Italian international has been linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico this summer, following several run-ins with coaches and the supporters.
However, despite the off field distractions, the former Espanyol star has found the back of the net with great regularity, thus leading to increased interest from across Europe.
Amongst the interested parties are said to be Tottenham, with boss Andre Villas-Boas keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season.
Osvaldo is understood to fit the bill, however it would appear that La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid have stolen a march in the race to land the 27-year-old.
The Spanish side are in the market in search of a replacement for Radamel Falcao who left the club last month to join Monaco.
They have seemingly targeted Osvaldo as the ideal replacement, with the player’s agent revealing that talks are on-going and that the fee has almost been agreed.
“The negotiations are taking place and the fee will be around 18million Euros,” Diego Tavano told Radio Mana Mana Sport as quoted by Sky Sports.
“The attacker is well liked in Spain and he just needs to find the right emotional balance because he has incredible qualities.”
Osvaldo was dropped by Italy coach Cesare Prandelli for the Confederations Cup after publicly insulting former Roma boss Aurelio Andreazzoli. However, it appears as though Atletico believe he is worth the gamble as they move forward with their chase.
