Chelsea finally look set to secure their prime left back target, according to the Express, who suggest that Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian star Filipe Luis is set to undertake a medical at Stamford Bridge ahead of a prospective summer move.
The 28 year-old has reportedly been made to train with Atletico’s reserve team after trying to force through the move to Chelsea this summer – but it looks as though the former Deportivo La Coruna player will get his way in the near future.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is on the hunt for a new left back after allowing club legend Ashley Cole to leave the club on a free transfer this summer, whilst back-up option Ryan Bertrand is deemed not to be good enough and Cesar Azplicueta is likely to switch position back to his natural right back area.
Luis only has 4 caps for Brazil, and surprisingly missed out on the squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup along with club teammate Miranda, a decision that perhaps looked unwise after the Selecao’s stunning 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany.
He was a key part of Diego Simeone’s Atletico team who stunningly clinched the La Liga title last season, as well as coming within seconds of beating Real Madrid in a pulsating Champions League final in Lisbon.
