The Spanish champions want City’s Negredo.
Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are planning a raid on English champions Manchester City for their striker Alvaro Negredo, reports the Daily Mirror.
Although Negredo had a good return for the Citizens in his first season in England, netting 23 goals, he is said to be ‘homesick’ and favouring a return back to Spain.
His family have also reportedly struggled to settle in England, and off field troubles took their toll on the 28-year-old to the extent that his form dropped towards the end of the Premier League campaign.
Atletico are offering the Spanish international an escape route as they have lined him up as a replacement for their 25-year old striker Diego Costa, who is on the brink of a move to Chelsea.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini ideally would not want to sell his top players, but he may be forced to do so with Negredo, if the rumours of his desire to return home are true.
Atletico are testing the waters, and a bid in the region of £25 million pounds could suffice for the powerfully built striker.
