Spanish champions Atletico Madrid will continue their summer recruitment drive by targeting three Premier League players.
The Daily Star are reporting that the Champions League runners-up are eyeing up audacious swoops for Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla, Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, and former player Fernando Torres – who is currently with Chelsea.
Diego Simeone’s side are looking to rebuild this summer, after seeing Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Thibaut Courtois all leave the club for Stamford Bridge, with the latter having completed a third season long loan spell at the Vicente Calderon.
They have already signed Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann and Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, and are now looking to step up their business efforts in order to keep pace with their big spending La Liga rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Simeone has already admitted he may look to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding the future of 26-year-old Hernandez as he looks to bolster his forward line.
“We speak to the sporting directors, we gave them the ideas on the type of players we want and then they get the players,” he said.
“With Javier Hernandez and plenty of other great players, anything is possible. We can’t close the door to anyone until the transfer window closes.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea are desperate to offload £50m flop Torres as the first team currently exceeds the foreign-player quota, otherwise Jose Mourinho could be forced to sell Petr Cech to Paris St-Germain.
It was reported earlier this month that the Gunners had quoted Atletico £15m for Cazorla, who has established himself as a firm fan favourite at the Emirates.
The arrival of Alexis Sanchez could push Cazorla down the pecking order at The Emirates and Arsene Wenger could be tempted to cash in.
