Australia cricket coach Darren Lehmann says he expects Perth Scorchers boss Justin Langer to be his successor.
Lehmann says Langer has shown he has the ability to coach at international level following his exploits in Western Australia.
Langer was coaxed away from his role as Australia’s batting coach to lead WA and has since won two Big Bash League titles with the Scorchers, as well as a Matador Cup win with Western Australia.
“I believe he’ll be the next coach of Australia,” Lehmann told Perth’s 6PR Radio.
“He’s done a fantastic job and he should be very proud of what he’s achieved in WA.
“He’s always ringing and asking questions and we’re always throwing things at him as well and asking him for different ideas.”
Lehmann is contracted until 2017, but he admits he cannot keep hold of the job forever.
“One thing I do know about this job is that you can’t do it for a long period of time because you’re away 270-300 days a year,” he continued.
“It is the best job in the world and, one day, I’m sure JL (Justin Langer) will make a very good Australian coach.”
Lehmann’s immediate focus will now be on the ICC World Cup, which begins on February 14.
Australia face old foes England at the MCG on the tournament’s opening day.
