Australia under-19 cricket captain Pat McKenna has nominated for the AFL draft, with several clubs reportedly interested in his services.
McKenna lead his country on a tour of Sri Lanka just two months ago, but after an impressive season of local football the 18-year-old has decided to pursue a career in the AFL.
His 45 goals in 18 games for Gisborne in the Bendigo Football League has left Fremantle, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Greater Western Sydney all reportedly circling.
“We respect Pat’s decision,” Cricket Australia (CA) team performance manager Pat Howard told AAP.
“He’s a terrific kid and a terrific athlete.”
McKenna is likely to be a late pick in either next week’s national draft or December’s rookie draft.
