David Warner has returned to training and declared himself ready and available for the Boxing Day Test.
Warner received throwdowns from assistant coach Michael Di Venuto as he batted for the first time since suffering a thumb injury in Australia’s second Test win over India in Brisbane.
“It was okay. It was a bit sore when it hit the splice and toe of the bat, but that’s to be expected,” Warner is quoted as saying by AAP.
“When it hits the splice it’s going to be quite painful, but I can bear that pain and get out there on Boxing Day.”
Shane Watson also made a return in the indoor nets facing a bowling machine, but later faced deliveries in the outdoor nets.
Watson was left visibly shaken on Tuesday when he was struck in the head by a James Pattinson short ball and sat out the remainder of yesterday’s session.
It seems the Aussies can’t seem to take a trick at this stage, after Shaun Marsh was struck on the right hand by a Josh Hazlewood delivery and went into the change rooms to be assessed.
He later returned to face throwdowns by Di Venuto.
