This win takes the 27-year-old through to a semi final match against Tomas Berdych on Thursday. The seventh seed beat Rafael Nadal in a surprise straight sets win earlier in the day, 6-2, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), so will be a stern test for the Briton.
Murray was dominant from the start of the encounter, with his serve looking particularly strong. This carried on throughout the match despite some fierce support from the home crowd for Kyrgios, who was the final Australian left in the competition.
This victory continues the British number one’s enviable record against players from down under, and he now has 11 victories and no losses to Australians. With Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal both out of the tournament, the Scot has a great chance of adding another major to his trophy cabinet if he can keep this form up.
