Tennis legend Billie Jean King says the commentator who asked Eugenie Bouchard to “do a twirl” in a post-game interview is “truly sexist”.
Eugenie Bouchard was asked to twirl and show off her outfit by commentator Ian Cohen following her straight-sets Australian Open win over Kiki Bertens.
It provoked an angry response on social media, and King took to the social media website to express her dismay at Cohen’s request.
“The Australian Open interviewer asking the women to “twirl” on court is out of line,” she tweeted.
“This is truly sexist. If you ask the women, you have to ask the guys to twirl as well.
“Let’s focus on competition and accomplishments of both genders and not our looks.”
