Maria Sharapova has brushed aside the challenge of Eugenie Bouchard to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open.
The Russian claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Canadian on Rod Laver Arena and was in total control for the whole match.
Sharapova broke Bouchard’s serve in the opening game of the match and never looked back, and although Bouchard showed signs of improvement as the first set progressed, Sharapova broke the 20-year-old again to close out the opening set 6-3.
Bouchard’s hopes of a fightback were dashed when Sharapova broke her serve early in the second set and from then on there was no stopping five-time Grand Slam winner.
Sharapova went on to close out the second set 6-2 and will meet Ekaterina Makarova in the semi-finals.
