1. Sending Benoit Assou-Ekotto on loan
The decision to send Spurs’ best and most experienced left back on a season long loan to QPR looks more inexplicable by the match. How ever lackadaisical the Cameroonian may be, the 29-year-old is a solid defender with over 150 Premier League games under his belt and Champions League experience. Spurs were unlucky to lose Danny Rose to a lengthy injury in September but there was no contingency plan, with first the hapless Kyle Naughton shifted to left back before Spurs’ best centre half Jan Vertonghen was forced to play out of position.
