In a recent interview, Alves heaped praise on Brazilian star Neymar, but warned that he still has room for improvement. Asked to compare the Santos forward to his club teammate and best player in the world, Lionel Messi, he was complimentary of his compatriot, but encouraged him to take the next step by moving to Europe.
“The only difference between these two great players, is that Messi plays in Europe and Neymar in Brazil. He [Neymar] is a great player, but he doesn’t have the tactical discipline and maturity nor the responsibility of knowing he is important within the team. Neymar should take this step by coming to Europe…since he still needs to be ‘educated’ football-wise.”
Alves’ remark echoes recent similar comments made by ex-footballers such as Cafu and Ronaldo. The Neymar saga continues to drag on and only time will tell when he will finally take the plunge and make the move to football’s biggest scene.
