Valencia’s Gil is on the radar of the two European giants.
Spain under-21 forward Carles Gil has become the subject of strong interest from both Barcelona and Manchester City, as the pair fight it out for the Valencia youngster, reports Super Deporte.
The 20-year-old is currently on-loan at Elche, but a successful start to the current campaign has seen Gil be called up to the under-21 national side.
Man City target Casillas set for crunch talks with Real Madrid.
This has also alerted Barca and City to the talents of the attacker, although Los Che are determined not to part with their coveted youngster.
Gil has been compared to David Silva – the Citizens’ attacking midfielder that also developed at the Mestalla Stadium – and the 2012 Premier League champions are hoping this latest product wants to tread the same path and come to England.
The starlet has a fairly modest release clause of €8m currently; a sum that could seem even smaller if the forward develops into the impressive player many believe he will.
That is why Valencia manager Miroslav Djukic is keen to offer the Spaniard a new deal and in the process up that buy-out fee to €20m.
However, it would be difficult to begrudge Gil if the attacker had his head turned by a switch to either the Nou Camp or the Etihad Stadium.
New City manager Manuel Pellegrini has been an admirer of the Valencia-born man for some time, even looking into bringing the player to Malaga before the Chilean made the switch to Eastlands.
Since then the club’s director of football Txiki Begiristain has been keeping tabs on Gil and there could well be an offer coming in for the Spaniard in the near future.
