Brazil international set to remain in his homeland.
Santos playmaker Neymar has reiterated his desire to remain in his homeland for at least one more year rather than make the move to Europe, reports Sky Sports.
The Brazil international has been linked with a whole host of ‘big-name’ clubs from the Continent of late, including the likes of Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as Premier League champions Manchester City and the current European Cup holders Chelsea.
However, while the 21-year-old admitted that he would one day be making the move to Europe, he is for now happy where he is in Sao Paulo.
Recently, Barcelona’s Brazil defender Dani Alves suggested that his compatriot could soon be playing at Camp Nou. But this claim was immediately denied by Santos vice-president Odilio Rodrigues, who said that the player would instead be signing a new contract with the Brazilian club.
And, the main reason why Neymar is more than likely to be staying in Brazil for one more year is that in 12 months’ time the country is hosting the World Cup finals, with the attacker is set to be the face of the tournament as Brazil go in search of what will be their sixth world title.
“I’ve said before, if I feel this is the right moment to leave, then why not? They say that I’ll leave Santos, that I won’t, but I have to stay calm,” Neymar said.
“People make many false stories but I’m happy at Santos, trying to help my team the best way I can. I hope to win games again.
“(Comments that I’ll leave now) are made by people that don’t know about my life. If I feel it’s time to leave, I’ll leave. But this is something I’ll decide, not somebody else. I’m doing well and happy at Santos.”
“There is no contract (with Barcelona), that’s not true.
“Daniel Alves is a big friend but if I say (Lionel) Messi will join Santos, will you believe it? I thank Daniel Alves for what he said but I’m happy here.”
