He has been linked to a transfer to Manchester United, but he has promised that he will wait until after the Champions League final to make a decision.
Although Barcelona accepts that this is his decision, they are asking Alves to sign a new deal as they have already thrown out an offer to the 32-year-old.
“We have presented Alves with a renewal offer that is respectful towards him,” Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu said to ESPN FC.
Alves has also received interest from Ligue 1 champion Paris Saint-Germain, but they denied that he will sign with them.
A move to Man United may come to fruition though, judging by Alves’ recent comments on his heart no longer being completely in Barcelona.
Alves has been with Barcelona since 2008, and he has helped lead them to five La Liga titles and two Champions League titles.
The veteran defender will look to help Barcelona win their third Champions League title with him on the team.
