Barcelona winger Pedro is backing Chelsea to be much improved in the Champions League this season, singling out his former team-mate Cesc Fabregas as a great signing for the club, the Independent reports.
The Spanish winger has played alongside Fabregas at club level for three years and the pair have also enjoyed great success at international level, and the 27-year-old had nothing but glowing praise for Chelsea’s new signing.
“Cesc is a great player, one of the best midfielders and he creates chances,” he said. “He is a great player to have. He will do really well at Chelsea.”
Jose Mourinho’s side were beaten at the semi-final stages of last season’s Champions League by Atletico Madrid, who also knocked Barca out in the previous round, but Pedro feels the Blues look in good shape to dominate Europe this season with some of their new signings.
Atletico pair Diego Costa and Filipe Luis have joined Fabregas in moving to Stamford Bridge, and Pedro feels they will be a difficult side to beat in 2014/15.
“Chelsea will be difficult to beat in the Champions League because they have strengthened well and made some great signings,” he added.
