Arsenal could face the blow of missing out on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender this January as Barcelona hope to hijack the deal, according to the Daily Express.

The German international is believed to be one of Arsene Wenger’s top targets for this January as he eyes improvements in midfield but faces missing out on Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira.
However, despite talks progressing on a £19m move to the Emirates Stadium, it is claimed that Bender could have his head turned by an offer from the Catalan giants.
Barca want a replacement in midfield for the likes of Alex Song and Cesc Fabregas, who both left in the summer, while veteran playmaker Xavi also looks set to leave in the near future.
