David Luiz is set to make the switch to Barcelona.
With expected new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho unsure about defender David Luiz, Barcelona are preparing to prey on his uncertainty and secure a deal for the Brazilian, according to the Daily Star.
Despite becoming a fans favourite at Stamford Bridge during his two years at the club, question marks still remain over Luiz’s defensive capabilities and Mourinho is clearly keen on selling the centre-back.
Yet Barca have a differing opinion of the 26-year-old and are prepared to offer £21m to secure his services this summer.
The Catalans are seeking to improve their defence with the possible departure of Javier Mascherano to Napoli and the chance that club captain Carles Puyol may retire in the very near future.
Luiz himself has not rubbished claims that he would be prepared to move to La Liga and has even praised Barca’s style of football as a system he likes to play in.
“My objective is to be happy and this is possible playing always in a team that controls the ball,” the Brazil international was quoted in the Daily Star.
“Barcelona is the team that has developed the best football in the last few years. I know Barca were interested in my services in the past.
“Problems with the Spanish language? No. I speak Spanish.”
This could come as unwanted news to Blues supporters who have been won over by Luiz’s charm and thunderbolt shots.
Yet despite the player looking more at home in his new defensive midfield role, it’s likely Mourinho will want to move him on and has already lined up FC Porto ace Eliaquim Mangala as his replacement.
