The former Liverpool forward is undergoing an eight match international ban for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil this summer, but an eleventh hour appeal could still see him available for the Copa America.
President of the Uruguayan FA Wilmar Valdez revealed that his organisation were currently in talks with FIFA, but admitted that their decision was unlikely to be changed.
“We are still negotiating this issue with Fifa, but we almost have ran out of options, and the truth is that it will be a miracle if Luis can play at the Copa America,” he said.
Uruguay have been doing well since their exit from the World Cup in the last 16, but they need to start preparing for life without Luis Suarez if they are to have any hope of a successful Copa America.
