Widely billed as the two main contenders for next season’s Premier League title, there certainly isn’t a lot to choose between reigning champions Manchester City and title hopefuls Chelsea in terms of their star-studded squads for the new campaign.
Both among the richest clubs in world football, it is no surprise to have seen them busy in the transfer market again this summer, with Chelsea in particular looking like having addressed the key areas of their squad to build a more balanced-looking side than the one that finished third last year.
In a tight contest, Chelsea have edged out their rivals with six players to City’s five in this selection, though what is most overwhelmingly clear is the superb depth of both sides, who could probably field four title-challenging starting elevens between them with the sheer quantity of top-class personnel at their disposal in every part of the pitch.
More signings could even be set to follow for both clubs, and some of the more likely ones will be taken into account here.

Chelsea: Thibaut Courtois
Manchester City: Joe Hart
Although there are no guarantees that either of these players will be number one for their clubs next season, with Petr Cech and Willy Caballero also among the top class goalkeepers at their disposal, we have selected these two as perhaps the best two, with Courtois in particular looking like becoming the finest of his generation between the sticks.
Vote: Courtois
