German international had been linked with top clubs across Europe.
Bayern Munich have confirmed on their official website that striker Mario Gomez will join Fiorentina, with the contract to be signed in the coming days.
The 27-year-old spent four years with the German giants, helping them to a treble winning season last year, although his presence in the first-team has steadily diminished.
Having lost a starting role to Mario Mandzukic last season, the arrival of Pep Guardiola and Mario Gotze left many expecting him to fall further down the pecking order.
As a result, the striker had pushed for a move away from his homeland and will join his preferred club after scoring 112 goals in 172 games for the reigning champions of Europe.
“It was the desire of Mario Gomez to leave Bayern Munich to go to Florence. We have now complied with his wish,” said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
“I would like to thank him for the performances he has brought for Bayern, thank you. On behalf of Bayern, I wish him luck and success in Florence! ”
It is understood that Napoli had attempted to hijack the German’s move to Fiorentina, while there was also interest from the Premier League.
Respected German football expert Raphael Honigstein has suggested that the deal will consist of €16m up-front, with an additional €4m in add-ons, via Bild.

It is quite the coup for Vincenzo Montella, who continues his excellent work from last season as the club look to improve on their fourth-placed finish in Serie A.
The Viola are currently building one of the most exciting projects in Italy, and given their style of play Gomez will undoubtedly relish the prospect of leading the line.
In contrast, his arrival is expected to have an impact on Stevan Jovetic’s future, with the Juventus and Arsenal target set to leave the Franchi this summer.
