Gomez remains a Bayern player for the time being.
Despite being told he is not part of new Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola’s plans, sporting director Matthias Sammer says no decent offers have come in for Chelsea target Mario Gomez.
It was confirmed that Gomez could leave the Allianz Arena this summer with Fiorentina the favourites to sign the German, whilst the Blues and Manchester City have also been keeping tabs.
Yet despite the 27-year-old essentially being offered up on a plate to Europe’s elite, Sammer says no satisfying bid has yet arrived for the striker.
“As of now the club have not received a bid which we are satisfied with for Gomez,” the director was quoted on goal.com.
It had been thought a fee between the Florence club and Bayern had been agreed but Sammer’s comments serve as proof that’s not true.
As a result it means both Chelsea and City still have a chance to land Gomez, who despite being out of favour at the German champions still has a goal-scoring record that is undeniably impressive.
Since joining the Champions League winners from Stuttgart in 2009 for £26.4m the Germany international has scored 113 goals in 174 appearances.
This record came on the back of 87 goals at Gomez’s previous club and the striker has also netted 25 times in 58 games for the German national team.
With a history in the box as impressive as that and with the forward entering the prime of his career aged 27, it is something of a surprise that none of the Premier League’s big clubs have made more of an effort to land Gomez.
