Arjen Robben expected tougher test at the Etihad after Bayern cruise to 3-1 victory.
Bayern Munich goalscorer Arjen Robben has admitted he didn’t expect the 3-1 Champions League win over Manchester City to be “so easy”.
The holders cruised into a 3-0 lead against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, with Thomas Muller, Franck Ribery and Robben all on target, before Alvaro Negredo’s late consolation goal.
Jerome Boateng was sent off in the dying minutes for the visitors but Bayern never appeared uncomfortable at the Etihad Stadium.
“The first 70 minutes we played some terrific football. We were so dominant against a big team in Europe. We didn’t expect an easy game like that,” Robben said.
“It is a compliment to our team but we expected more from City. We didn’t give them any space, we pressed them right up to the goalkeeper and they just kicked it away. Sometimes they gave us too much space and we used space well.”
