German giants Bayern Munich have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world in Manuel Neuer in their ranks at the moment, but they want to strengthen their reserves further by signing Liverpool’s Pepe Reina, reports the Daily Mirror.
Reina is out of favour with Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers, but has got bags of experience after having served as a No.1 for the Reds and Barcelona in the past. The Bavarians reckon that the 31-year old is the ideal foil for Neuer and could deputize well for him if needed.
Reina though seems to be intent on a return to his home country Spain if he is allowed to leave by the Reds, but any potential switch for the shot-stopper could depend on whether Rodgers can sign a backup for him this summer. Liverpool are currently putting their faith in Simon Mignolet as their No.1 at Anfield, and besides Reina, they do not have an experienced enough goalie to deputize for the Belgian.
Rodgers has identified the goalkeeping slot as one area that needs improving from last season, and is likely to add to his reserves for the position, potentially freeing up a disgruntled Reina to move this summer.
