Schweinsteiger has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, and the Sunday Times reports the German international is seriously considering a move away from his boyhood club to join the Premier League giants.
The newspaper claims the recently-appointed German skipper is targeting success at EURO 2016 and believes it could be his last chance to lead his country glory at a major international tournament.
Schweinsteiger missed a large chunk of Bayern’s title-winning campaign through injury last season, and Pep Guardiola’s side coped well in his absence.
Bayern manager Pep Guardiola may use the 30-year-old as a bit-part player next season, and The Sunday Times reports the player could be lured into reuniting with former manager Louis van Gaal.
It was van Gaal who made the inspired decision to convert Schweinsteiger from a left-back to a central midfielder, and the World Cup winner would certainly be considered a first-choice player under the Dutchman.
It remains to be seen if Schweinsteiger is willing to make a move away from his beloved Bayern Munich, but there’s no doubt he would bring a tonne of class and experience to the United midfield
