Chelsea may have Pedro, but they still lack stability on defense – which Antonio Rudiger could have provided.
Between John Terry’s subbing, Ivanovic’s benching and a rejected bid for John Stones, things are not looking too good for Chelsea’s defense. And matters are about to get a little bit worse.
In an official announcement on Twitter, AS Roma announced that they have signed VfB Stuttgart defender Antonio Rudiger on a season-long loan for a fee of €4 million.

Chelsea were considered the top contenders for the German starlet with a £20 million bid believed to be in the works. At the age of 22, Rudiger was seen as an ideal candidate to replace John Terry in the long term.
AS Roma reported on their official website that the deal for the 22-year-old Rudiger has the option to become permanent for €9 million starting with the 2016-17 season.
Antonio Rudiger is coming off his third season with Stuttgart in Bundesliga, and his first season in which he played 30 games or more. The 22-year-old German defender has 6 caps for the national team and 10 caps with a goal for the Under-21 team.
