Winger has notched six goals in four pre-season matches.
Newcastle Jets winger James Virgili insists he will continue to be increasingly ruthless in front of goal after his pre-season scoring streak.
Virgili was on target twice in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Bonnyrigg White Eagles, taking his tally to six in four warm-up matches during the summer, and the 21-year-old believes the regularity at which he’s found the back of the net is all down to a new-found confidence.
“I’ve been lucky enough to score a few goals in the last few trial matches, which is something I don’t think I did enough of last season,” Virgili told Football Australia.
“I’m backing myself to take players on and shoot a bit more, because at the end of the day if you don’t shoot, you don’t score.”
Despite adding goals to his game in recent weeks, Virigli insists there are still facets of his all-round play that require polishing before the 2013/14 season gets up and running.
“I think in general play I could have done more and I think my final ball still needs to improve, but to get on the score sheet is always nice,” Virgili added.
“I’ve just got to make sure I keep working hard so I can carry that into the A-League and keep scoring goals there.”
