Zenit St. Petersburg’s Axel Witsel wants Premier League deal.
Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel has issued a come and get me plea to Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Belgium international, 24, was linked with a move to the Premier League during his time at Benfica but joined the Russian outfit for £32m in September 2012.
The midfielder’s large wages initially unsettled Zenit teammates but he has been a success in St Petersburg.
Witsel, however, remains keen on a move to the Premier League, and specifically Chelsea or United, mainly because so many of his international teammates are plying their trade in the English top flight.
“I hope for a big club. I also see my teammates playing at teams like Chelsea or Manchester United,” Witsel told Belgian newspaper Sport Wereld.
“There will come a day when one of those clubs will show interest and I can leave. My preference goes out to the Premier League. Not because half the national team is playing there, but because competition is the most watched.”
