RB Nick Chubb and the #13 Georgia Bulldogs take on the #21 Louisville Cardinals in the Belk Bowl.
The Bulldogs started the year with arguably the hardest first month’s schedule in college football with back-to-back games against Clemson and South Carolina to start the season. After trouncing Clemson, Georgia narrowly lost to South Carolina to fall of the college football radar for a very long time. After losing Heisman-hopeful RB Todd Gurley to an NCAA-imposed suspension, the Bulldogs still managed to beat #23 Missouri 34-0 to climb back into the SEC title race, but losses to Florida and Georgia Tech doomed them. They key to beating the Bulldogs will be to stop their rushing attack led by Nick Chubb (14 total TDs, 7.1 yards/carry) and force them to pass – where the Cardinals are more effective.
The Cardinals have been in the right place at the wrong time and were simply unable to overcome the dominance of the leaders of the ACC Atlantic Division – the Clemson Tigers and of course the Florida State Seminoles, both of whom beat them – and get any part of the ACC division title. Under head coach Bobby Petrino the Cardinals have had a variety of QBs forced to come in, but all of played well at times, and three of the QBs that have played extended time have more TDs than INTs. WR DeVante Parker is a stud of a WR though, and his incredible 21.0 yards/catch was among the best in the ACC this season. The key to beating the Cardinals will be blanketing Parker and keeping the pressure on whichever QB Petrino decided to throw out there.
Prediction: Georgia Bulldogs win the Belk Bowl – Unlike the Cardinals who have shown an ability to lose close games to inferior opponents, the Bulldogs have only lost to SEC teams – among the hardest competition in football. Expect Nick Chubb to have a big day as the Bulldogs easily dispatch Louisville for a Bowl win.
