Post 4 – Frammento
Jockey: Mike Smith
Trainer: Nick Zito
Owner: Mossarosa
Frammento finished 3rd at the Fountain of Youth Stakes in February and finished 4th at the Blue Grass Stakes in April. Unfortunately, he finished in a disappointing 11th at the Kentucky Derby under previous jockey Corey Nakatani and rested for the Preakness.
Mike Smith has won two of the last five Belmont Stakes, with Palace Malice in 2013 and with Drosselmeyer in 2010.
Trainer Nick Zito was the one who made the decision to replace Nakatani with Mike Smith and owns 5 wins in Triple Crown races – two Kentucky Derby wins with Strike For Gold (1991) and Go for Gin (1994), along with one Preakness win with Louis Quatorze in 1996. But most importantly, he owns two fairly recent wins at the Belmont, having trained 2004 winner Birdstone and 2008 winner Da’Tara.
Predicted Finish: 4th
