Ben Barba makes a shock return to training.
After his public fall from grace, Ben Barba looks set to make a spectacular return to the field as the Canterbury Bulldogs announced his return to training this week.
The troubled star could return for the Bulldogs as early as round three after it was reported by Fox Sports that he had been discharged from the private treatment facility that has been Barba’s home fore the last two weeks.
The Dally M winner has been undergoing an intensive two week live‐in rehabilitation program, following his indefinite suspension by the club for breaches of the code of conduct and other personal issues.
A refreshed looking Barba thanked his many fans for their support during his ordeal and was happy to comment on the progress he has made in recovery.
“I would like to say thank you to those close to me for their support and to the many hard working professionals who have helped me over the last few weeks,” said Ben Barba.
“The level of care that was given to me was incredible and I will forever be thankful to the very caring and compassionate people who assisted me during a very difficult time in my life.”
His return for the round three clash with the Melbourne Storm next weekend is subject to the views and analysis of the club coaching and medical staff along with the advice of the independent specialists.
While the Bulldogs are hopeful of their star’s return to the field, coach Des Hasler will not be rushed into playing him before he is ready.
“We won’t be rushing him back for the sake of it, we will continue to be guided by the medical experts and will heed their advice,” said Hasler.
