Nine News report that the former Eagles captain was apprehended at the Campbell Barracks in Perth at around 11pm on Sunday.
It is believed he is currently being assessed at the Sir Charles Gardner hospital, the report says.
The incident comes barely a week after Cousins charged after allegedly driving erratically and refusing to give a breath test.
The 36-year-old is due to appear at the Fremantle Magistrates Court on April 8.
Since winning the Brownlow Medal in 2005, Cousins has faced a number of legal and substance abuse issues.
He was suspended from the sport for 12 months in 2007 by the AFL, before retiring in 2010 following a two-year stint with Richmond.
