How the stars from north London rated in Portugal.
Tottenham Hotspur had it all to do when they traveled to Portugal to take on Benfica in the second-leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.
That was because they trailed 1-3 from the first-leg at White Hart Lane and to make things worse arrived in Lisbon with no fit first team centre-backs.
However, all was not lost as although a 2-2 score in the night sends Spurs out, it was a plucky performance from the north London side and here’s how they rated at the Estadio da Luz.
Brad Friedel – 6
Was drafted in after a late injury to Hugo Lloris, but the Frenchman wouldn’t have been able to save either of the goals and this was solid, if unspectacular, from the American.
Kyle Naughton – 6
Was pretty good in defence up against a decent Benfica attack, but unlike counterpart Kyle Walker is nowhere near as potent in attack.
Sandro – 7
Was drafted in at centre-back due to a spate of injuries and suspensions for Sherwood’s side and played well in a position the Brazilian is unused to – although did give away a clumsy penalty in the final minute of extra-time.
Zeki Fryers – 7
Like Sandro was asked to play out of position and the usual left-back also coped well on the night and looks like a promising player for Tottenham in the future.
Danny Rose – 6
Passed a late fitness test and had the opposite problem to Naughton, as the Englishman was good in attack but failed to truly shackle Salvio when defending.
