Argentina international eyeing Old Trafford switch.
Benfica centre-half Ezequiel Garay hopes that ‘superagent’ Jorge Mendes can help secure him a summer move to Manchester United, according to the Daily Mirror.
The tabloid reports that the Argentina international has signed up with Mendes in an attempt to push through a move to the Premier League, with Old Trafford his preferred destination.
The Benfica star ditched his former representative two months ago to join Mendes’ agency, Gestifute.
The ‘superagent’ has previously sealed moves to United for Cristiano Ronalo, Nani, Anderson and flop Bebe but has faced criticism for his methods from fellow professionals.
In 2005, Nani’s former agent Ana Almeida claimed the winger was still contracted to her when Mendes set-up his move to Old Trafford, while Bebe’s agent Goncalo Reis made similar allegations just days before his former client agreed a £7.5m move to the Red Devils in 2010.
Mendes has denied the claims in the past, however, with the Mirror quoting him as saying: “There are people that have signed contracts with players and are there waiting for a Jorge Mendes to show up and take him to a big club.”
Former Real Madrid defender Garay has been with Benfica since 2011 and has made 19 appearances for the club in the Liga Sagres this term.
The 6’4″ centre-back, who has also played for Racing Santander and Newell’s Old Boys, has 11 senior caps for Argentina.
