Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to overhaul his attack following a disappointing season and is understood to be desperate to bring Benteke to Anfield.
According to Daily Express, Liverpool will move quickly to land the star attacker to ward off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
The 24-year-old Belgian international had a superb back-end to the 2014/15 Premier League season, scoring 11 goals in as many matches to help Villa avoid relegation.
It is believed Villa will offer Benteke an improved deal to keep him the former Genk man at the club, but the Reds remain favourites to snare his signature.
Liverpool struggled for goals this season and Benteke is seen as a priority signing by Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds managed to score just 52 goals this term in comparison to the 101 scored last season.
