3) Juan Mata – Chelsea
The Spanish playmaker is gradually earning his place back in Jose Mourinho’s first-choice XI, but it seems bizarre and absurd that he ever lost in the first place following his brilliant performances last season. Mata has virtually everything a good attacking midfielder should have: he scores goals, makes them, and has the ability to stamp his authority on matches. If this wasn’t enough, Mata also led the Blues to a Europa League triumph this year with a string of match winning performances. How Eden Hazard made the shortlist ahead of him is anyone’s guess.
