Van Gaal and Bayern had to settle with a double in his first season at the Allianz Arena – what a shame! – after losing out in the Champions League final to former protege Jose Mourinho.
Whilst Bayern will have revelled in their success, they may have regretted biting on what turned out to be a particularly poisonous apple with the club’s board, team and eventually supporters all turning on van Gaal after a downturn in results and questionable tactical and personnel decisions.
