Arsenal’s chances of landing Julian Draxler during this summer’s transfer window have been dealt a blow, after his current outfit Schalke claimed they were confident of keeping the 20-year-old, reports the Metro.
The Gunners want the young German to bolster the attacking midfield areas in the squad. He’s prodigiously talented, and is already a regular in the national setup.
His current club though reckon he’ll remain with them for at least next season.
Schalke’s sporting director Horst Heldt told Sky90: “I believe that Draxler will stay with us.”
The playmaker is comfortable in any one of the attacking midfield positions, but would likely command a very large transfer fee, with his release clause rumoured to be as high as £37m.
The player himself has further distanced himself from a move to Arsenal, but hinting that he could eventually turn out for Bayern Munich.
“Look at what happened with Manuel Neuer. He was 100 per cent convinced that he would never join FC Bayern but, after having played as a pro for five years, time made him change his opinion,” he said.
