Tait will fill a hole in the bowling lineup left by Ben Hilfenhaus, who signed a three-year deal with the Melbourne Stars.
The veteran said he was looking forward to making the move to Tasmania.
“The Hobart Hurricanes have shown great confidence in me and I look forward to repaying them by performing well in Hobart over the next two years,” Tait said in a club statement.
“There’s some quality, experienced players amongst the Hurricanes group who I have played with and against during my career so I am looking forward to teaming up again with those guys”.
Hurricanes coach Damien Wright said he was delighted with the capture of the 32-year-old.
“He has always been someone you fear when you play against him so out batsmen are also happy to be playing alongside him,” Wright said.
“There’s no doubt our members and fans will love watching ‘the big fella’ unleash at Blundstone Arena next summer”.
