New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori is reportedly in the running to take over as Brisbane Heat coach.
Vettori played for the Heat in this season’s Big Bash League, with The Courier-Mail reporting the Black Caps veteran is favourite to land the top job.
The Heat sacked Stuart Law after a disappointing Big Bash season in which the side finished bottom.
The report suggested Heat bosses would favour Vettori “because he is universally respected and has always been regarded as a thinking man’s cricketer.”
Vettori is currently the head coach of Indian Premier League side Royal Challengers Bangalore and would require permission from them to take over as Brisbane coach.
He is expected to retire from international cricket following the end of the upcoming Cricket World Cup.
