AS Monaco eye shock signing of Chelsea captain John Terry.
AS Monaco are to tempt Chelsea captain John Terry to sign for the club with a huge contract offer, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The principality club hope that by offering Terry wages of £150,000 net per week will entice him away from west London, and with the former England captain not in the first choice XI at Stamford Bridge at present, the chance to finish his career in such an ambitious project may interest him.
Monaco have certainly demonstrated they mean business already this transfer window, with the massive signings of Radamel Falcao from Atletico de Madrid and James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho from FC Porto, and a deal for John Terry would also be a statement of intent.
Judged purely for his abilities on the football pitch, the 32 year-old Terry is a fine central defender who has proved himself one of the best in the world over the last decade.
His positioning is truly world class, compensating well for his lack of pace, and it means he could well play at the highest level for a few more years yet.
Terry is a brilliant header and tackler, and an underrated passer. Despite a number of off field issues, he is a good leader, and Monaco may well decide he is worth the gamble.
It is not known if Terry is in Jose Mourinho’s plans at Stamford Bridge, but would reunite with his former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri if he moved to Monaco.
