8. Marco Pantani
Pantani was known as being one of the best climbers in world cycling but failed a drugs test in 1999 Giro d’Italia.
Drugs plagued him for the rest of his career and he was found dead in his hotel room in Rimini, Italy in 2004.
Toxicology results found Pantani to have taken six times the lethal limit of cocaine.
7. Shane Warne
Australian star spinner Shane Warne was sent home a day before the 2003 Cricket World Cup after failing a drugs test.
Warne blamed the failed test on his Mum, saying she had given him diuretics to aid weight loss.
The pill contained hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride, ingredients used for weight loss but also used by drug cheats to mask the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
Warne was banned from all forms of cricket for 12 months.
