The Melbourne Storm star was named at fullback in the 20-man Australia squad but has not overcome the injury he suffered during the Storm’s round five clash against the New Zealand Warriors.
According to the NRL, Michael Jennings has been called into the 17 after Slater decided in was in the best interests of the Kangaroos if he did not feature in the annual Test.
“I made a decision I didn’t want to go out there and let the side down,” he is quoted as saying by the ABC.
South Sydney Rabbitohs star Greg Inglis will move from the centres to full-back for the clash.
In other ANZAC Test news, Penrith star Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has taken an early guilty plea for a dangerous throw on Cronulla’s Wade Graham, meaning he will be denied a Test debut for New Zealand for the second time in six months.
He will be replaced by St George Illawarra veteran Jason Nightingale, who only recently made his return from injury.
