Rumors have been circulating about Jon Bon Jovi’s interest in the Bills for months. The first steps towards a possible purchase were made on Friday.
Rock n’ Roll legend Jon Bon Jovi and a group of Toronto backers have officially retained a banking firm and submitted paperwork to the Buffalo Bills expressing their interest in purchasing the team.
According to the Associated Press via ESPN.com, the group includes Larry Tanenbaum, the chairman of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which controls the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) and Toronto Raptors (NBA). The group also includes members of the the Rogers family with Edward Rogers, the deputy chairman of Rogers, a major Toronto communications company.
The Buffalo Bills have been on the market since the team’s founder and owner Ralph Wilson Jr. passed away in March.
There has been no official word as to whether the group intends to move the team to Toronto in the event of a successful purchase. However, the team is under lease to play at Ralph Wilson stadium in Orchard Park, New York through 2019 – any attempt at a move would result in penalties of $400 million before 2020.
