With 12 games to go, two leading firms pay out on Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
Leading UK bookmakers Paddy Power and Betfred have paid out on Manchester United winning the Premier League with 12 games still to go.
Check in to Real Madrid vs Manchester United
The Red Devils are 12 points clear of second placed Manchester City and the title race is over for those firms who have given punters some Valentine’s Day cheer by paying out early.
Betfred boss Fred Done, lifelong United fan, has pulled such a stunt before. He famously paid out in 1998 when Arsenal overcame a big deficit to pinch the league from under United’s nose and his fingers were burnt last year by Manchester City winning the title in the most dramatic style.
“After it all went wrong last year, my missus made me promise to never do it again, but with United 12 points clear with just 12 games left the title race is over – so my punters can collect their dough on United,” Done is quoted as saying by news agency AFP.
Paddy Power went one step better then Betfred by paying out before Manchester United beat Everton.
A spokesperson for the company added: “The fat lady might not be singing yet but she’s definitely getting warmed up. We can’t see United letting their lead slip and, with Real Madrid to come midweek, we thought we’d take some of the pressure off Fergie and give punters an early payday.”
